the third picture i've put up here about the IJN Yamato's final battle, this one shows the fight from her decks, and you can get a feel for the massive size of the ship, something i've recently learn, her main gun turrets, the ones that hold her 18.1 inch cannons weighed about the same as an american destroyer, think about it, a Fletcher class destroyer, is the same weight as 1 of yamato's main gun turrets, i was surprised by that

thanks, here's something else crazy i learn, at the battle of leyte gulf, all of Taffy 3's ships, which included 6 escort carriers, three destroyers and three escort destroyers. when combined there tonnage still didn't match the yamato let along the other 22 ships in the Japanese fleet

Also, mind you that YAMATO weighted nearly twice as much as any other senkan afloat (more than 72,000 tons at full load).
Counting the IOWA Class, too!

true enough, but if the war had continued for another year we would have our own 'yamato' class of ship, the Montana class, it would have displaced more the yamato and it would have been just as large, with equal if not more fire power in the form of twelve 16in main guns and many 5in gun emplacements

That would be the ultimate clash, if both kaibutsu would meet each other!...
Two senkan would cause as much fierceful combats as the dozens of dreadnoughts at Jutland! :o

A perspective not often seen of the Yamato's final hours.
