Battleships Yamato and Musashi the largest battleships ever created, a third ship the Shinano was laid down but halfway through its construction it was converted into an Aircraft Carrier. Both mega ships were sunk by US Task forces. Musashi sunk during Leyte Gulf and Yamato during Operation Ten-Go both were beautiful ships and it is sad to see them go down

There was supposed to be an even more powerful class of battleships that was an upgraded Yamto-Class. You'll find them on Wikipedia under "Design A-150 Battleship"

When I saw the title, I was thinking of a fictional Japanese battleship named Omi.XD

Still, this is awesome! Had Japan amassed its fleets with such giant battleships, the Pacific would be under their dominion.:)

perhaps, but if we the americans still had advanced our carriers as we did, sadly the great battleships would fall as they did in the war

There was an article I read in Popular Mechanics years ago that stated that the US Navy was taking a look at reviving the battleship once their advanced weapons contracts put railguns online. Read a newer article that said the Navy was interested in field testing a railgun weapons system by next year. I think last year they test fired a 40lb projectile at mach 7. So we could see them come back in a new form.
